The U.S. government's Center for Mental Health Services created this annual campaign to increase public awareness about the importance of protecting and nurturing the mental health of young people. This display identifies books on how to deal with everyday issues, possible dangers, and how you may be able to help your child cope. |

| Welcome to the Summer Reading-RIF Program! Founded in 1966 “Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is the oldest and largest children’s and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. With the help of RIF, the summer reading program has helped motivate children to read books and has encouraged good family and community involvement. | Summer Reading Program 2008 | |

This month we are celebrating 50 years of summer reading program fun. This year’s theme is Texas Reading Club Jubilee: 1958-2008. The Texas Reading Club is designed to encourage youth to read for pleasure and to promote library usage. A statewide theme is selected each year that emphasizes ways in which reading expands young minds and encourages children to use their imaginations. It also reminds young people that reading can be great fun. A handbook is created each year to aid in planning and programming, and the handbook, along with posters, reading logs, bookmarks, and certificates are offered by the Texas State Library to encourage participation and support of this important program. |
